Site Analysis and Planning
Graduate core course
School of Architecture + Landscape Architecture, University of British Columbia
2019 - 2021
This course explores site analysis and planning from the perspective of contemporary social theory. The course pedagogy is situated between landscape architecture and political ecology. The purpose of this bidisciplinary approach is to foster a generative dialogue between landscape architecture and critical theory, respectfully observing the methods and concepts of each while working towards an experimental and synthetic spatial practice. The goal of this approach is 1) to position landscape architecture within broader critical discourse, 2) to interrogate how landscape architecture’s visual methods influence our modes of perception and action, and 3) to advance a design agenda grounded in social and environmental justice.
